I have always had bigger calves. Even when I was a size 4 before having kids I still had big calves compared to the rest of my body. The thing is that my calves were not fat but were muscular but that didn’t matter when it came to dressing my body.
Over the past few years I have learned a thing or two for making big calves into smaller calves but just dressing your body properly.
Here are some important tips to remember if you have larger calves and want to make them look thinner.
Choosing the right pair of shoes is an important part of making your calves look smaller.
Stay away from any type of shoe that ties around the ankle or up the calf. This includes shoes like gladiator sandals and espadrilles. Even dress shoes that have a strap around the ankle can make your calf look larger.
When it comes to heels, look for a thicker high heel instead of a really thin stiletto. Thick calves paired with a tiny stiletto only makes the calves appear larger. Also, you may want to watch out for wedge heels as well. Sometimes they can look too clunky and make your calves appear larger as well.
When it comes to boots, you may have to look for wide calf boots so that they fit comfortably. I know that I have had trouble with high boots and fitting my calves into them and I’m sure there are lots of other women who have had this trouble as well. Instead of squishing your calf into a boot and being uncomfortable look for wide boots. You should be able to stick at least one finger into the top of your boot or else they may be too tight.
Also, don’t buy any boots that end right in the middle of your calf. Having a boot that ends at the widest part of your calf can make them look double their size. Instead go for a boot that ends right below the knee. The simpler and sleeker the boot the better. Buckles and large zippers may only add width to your legs.
Choosing Pants, Skirts and Dresses
Choosing the right pair of bottoms can really help you make your calves look thinner. You don’t have to hide your legs if you have wider calves but you just have to know how to dress them right to make them look smaller.
When it comes to skirts and dresses, ones that fall right at the knee or slight above may look the best on you. Knee length dresses and skirts help to keep the attention off your calves and end at the skinniest part of your legs. If you are really self-conscious about your calves you do always have the option of long maxi skirts and dresses, which are really popular right now.
Don’t wear skirts or dresses that end right in the middle of your calf or right at the top of your calf. This definitely is not slimming for your legs.
Pants that are flared or are bootcut are definitely one of the best styles for slimming your calves. You can also wear wide leg and trouser jeans that can help hide bigger calves. Skinny jeans and tapered pants will only make your calves look larger and will draw more attention to them. Unless you are wearing your skinny jeans or leggings with knee high boots that cover your calves, you may be making your calves look larger.
When it comes to capris and cropped pants you may want to get rid of the ones that accentuate your calves by ending right in the middle of them. You should also never wear cropped pants or capris with flat ballet shoes, as you definitely need the height of a high heel with these types of pants. If you want to wear shorter pants, look for ones that end right below the calf such as an ankle length or something like a Bermuda short that ends at the top of the knee.
Lastly, if you do plan on showing off your calves, which is bound to happen in the summer, think about using self tanner or a tanning lotion to make your calves appear more toned and shapely. You don’t have to actually go tanning, as there are tons of self-tanning lotions, creams and even some gradually tanning lotions that are very easy to use.
If you follow these tips you can help make your calves look thinner and you don’t have to lose a pound.
