I love the look of winged eyeliner, but it definitely is not that easy to do at first. Once you get the hang of it though, eyeliner wings are really not that hard to do and can give you the glamour, eye-popping look you want.
Here is a winged eyeliner tutorial that just about any woman can follow and it won’t make you look like you got punched in the eye!Although it sounds like easy step-by-step instructions it may take you a few times before you get the look right with your eyes.
How To Do Winged Eyeliner
1. Instead of just rushing into using black liquid eyeliner, use a lighter colored pencil to trace how you want your eyeliner wings to look. This way if you don’t like the look of them, you can simply take off the eyeliner easily with a Q-Tip.
2. The line should start out very thin by the inside corner of your eye and then increasingly cut thicker as it hits the outside corner of your eye. How far you want your wings to go past your eye is up to you and based on the look that you like and the shape of your eyes.
3. Do the winged eyeliner on both of your eyes and then take a 5 minute break away from the mirror. When you come back it should be easier to tell if your eyeliner wings are even on both sides. If you are happy with them, you can then proceed to the next step. If you aren’t happy use a Q-Tip to try to touch up the eyeliner.
4. Trace over the eyeliner pencil with a black liquid eyeliner. I recommend you buy Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner as it is perfect for winged eyeliner. The liquid or gel eyeliner works best for getting defined winged lines. You could use an eyeliner pencil but the lines won’t be as defined and may be more smudged, which tends to get you the look of a black eye sometimes. If you notice your hand is really unsteady, try resting it on the bathroom counter or on a table to help.
Keep practicing on how to wing eyeliner as the more you do it, the easier it will become for you. You may have to practice a few times before you get the eyeliner to look like you want it to so if you are doing this for a special event plan on practicing ahead of time.
Winged eyeliner can be worn during the day (don’t make the wings as long) or it can be a great nighttime look as well if you want to make it a bit more dramatic. It really is a great way to play up your eyes and make them pop. It’s great for eyes of every color from hazel eyes to dark brown eyes.
