When it comes to choosing a skirt, there are two things you need to keep in mind: the shape and the length of the skirt. I learned a fashion tip for choosing the best skirt lengths for your body a few years back and it has really helped buy flattering skirts that look the best on my body.
There are all types of different lengths for skirts from maxi skirts down to your ankles to miniskirts that just cover your butt. Before I let you in on my tip, I do have to say that I personally don’t wear miniskirts as I have more of a modest fashion style and plus after having 3 kids I don’t think miniskirts would be appropriate anyways, but I have included tips on finding all types of lengths.
*All you need is a regular bath towel and a full length mirror*
Stand in front of the mirror in your underwear and hold the towel lengthwise in front of your legs. Move the towel up and down to find a point where your legs look the best. Take a mental picture of where that length or lengths are so next time you go shopping you know to only look for skirts that would hit you in your best areas of your legs.
There are some general rules that can help you decide the best skirt length for you.
If you have think legs and don’t think you can even wear a skirt, look for longs skirts that hit right at the bottom of your ankle or land right above the floor. Maxi skirts are really popular and you can find several different styles available at just about any store.
If you are going for a skirt that hits below your knee, make sure it hits at a narrow part of your calf and not at the widest. A skirt that hits at the widest part of your calf will cut off your body and may make you look shorter and sort of stumpy.
Play around with different lengths in front of the mirror at home as it may surprise at just how big of a difference it can make in your appearance.
